anima

Exhibition
mudac, musée de design et d’arts appliqués contemporains, Lausanne (Suisse)
2016

anima is the retrospective of seven creation years. The exhibition invites to explore an interior full of surprises. The visitor experiences two show apartments furnished with the wide variety of the creations of the studio. The two mirror apartments reveal an almost identical furniture, black and white in a first time, and colored in a second time. This setup reminds us of the very origin of the term. The Latin word color comes from celare, to hide. In the Middle Ages, colour was considered as casing, as disguise. Dressing objects in colour is to give them materiality, sensuality, invoking intense emotions in us.

Colours also convey codes that have an influence on our environment and behaviours. This installation also puts pressure on the notion of gender in contemporary design. Can we talk about a masculine environment with cold tones ? A feminine world with warm tones ? What creator for each of these apartments ?

To the surprise of color are added tricks scattered in the exhibition. Astonishing objects are revealed in interstices, through darkness. In niches, manipulation of objects are staged, reminding us the taste for illusion and humor.

The exhibition does not forget to mention the research and work process. Videos reveal the attachment to mechanics and construction, but also the interest in materials and textures. Collages evoke the worlds behind creation. The labels highlight the photographic work. At the exit of the exhibition, a model of the space embodies the taste for scenography.

The exhibition takes place from September 15th 2017 to January 15th 2017 at mudac, musée de design et d’arts appliqués contemporains, in Lausanne (Switzerland).
