Épée d'académicien
For choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, a musical sword in the form of a rain stick was created for his induction as a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. A dancer's sword that expresses rhythm, a light sword that expresses itself through movement. A musical sword that resonates like a rain stick, thanks to meteorite dust circulating inside it.
It is inspired by the sticks used in certain martial arts, in homage to judo, Angelin Preljocaj's original sport, which has often inspired his choreography. The design is traced in a supple line, from the tip to the pommel via the guard. The scrolls milled into the walnut wood already sketch an illusion of movement. A meteorite is embedded in the pommel to complete this dream sword.
Between dance and design, the emotion of seeing creation flow: 15 years ago, from the scenography for Le Funambule to the Angelin lamp. Today, the symbiosis of sword and ballet, object and movement, continues.
