Bleu profond, l'océan révélé

Museum scenography
Les Franciscaines Deauville
2025

From early mythological tales to scientific explorations, the underwater world has always fuelled the imagination and artistic visions. Between 1850 and 1914, scientists, writers, poets and painters helped to establish the underwater world as a realm of wonder and scientific discovery.

The exhibition traces how early underwater research, diving suits and exploration equipment helped
to dispel some mysteries while reviving the myth of an unknown world populated by strange creatures. The first
aquariums in the 19th century, veritable theatres of life, accentuated this collective fascination, showcasing translucent jellyfish,
disturbing fish and, above all, the emblematic figure of the octopus, queen of underwater monsters.

The scenography, designed as an underwater journey in shades of blue, invites the viewer to navigate from the foreshore to the deepest depths. With its curves, it encourages visitors to surrender to the flow of the journey, until they discover the final surprise, connecting the vertigo of the depths with the dazzling light of the surface.
